Ok so you’ve gotten some bad advice and some decent advice. Here is the low down.

1. It takes years and years before you can build a full fledge Affiliate Business that will earn you a large enough income that you can quit your day job. It will not come over night and it will not be easy.

2. If anyone charges you anything to be an affiliate, the program is a fake.

3. Do not promote programs that allow adware and parasites. Your commissions will be stolen.

4. You can join networks like ShareaSale.com or Performics.com or CJ.com, however, once you are approved into the network, you still need to apply to each program you want to promote. You will not automatically be given access to all programs in a real and legitimate Affiliate Network.

5. Once you have the programs and sites, you now need to become an expert at white hat online and offline marketing to generate a long term success strategy. Your Affiliate business will take 5-10 years of constant work to actually create a liveable income. Do not fall for a get rich quick deal, you will fail. The only person who gets rich is the person scamming you at the top.

Affiliate networks do not hire people. You apply to join them and once you are approved you are given access to their merchant base.

You select a merchant that has products that are relevant to your website. You then copy the product or banner code and paste it on your web. When you make a sale the network will pay you a percentage.

Depending on the volumes of traffic to your site, it can take some months to start earning a reasonable amount.

If you are going to try affiliate marketing it probably pays to go with the bigger networks so that you know you are guaranteed to be paid for your sales.

Commission Junction, Shareasale, Linkshare are all reputable networks.

First, affiliates are not hired. Employees are hired. As an affiliate, you are your own business owner.

Second, there are many legitimate affiliate programs, and nobody is getting rich from them. Don’t expect to replace your job this way.

Third, there are a lot of scams that disguise themselves as affiliate programs. Be careful.

I have to agree with another poster and gave them a thumbs up. They are correct about affiliates being home based business owners. Your not hired your build a business through collaborations within a company. A business within a business. Kind of like if you were to open up a McDonald’s, you’d own that particular business, but you wouldn’t own the entire chain or McDonald’s. Just that one restaurant.
Affiliate business owners have the same income opportunities as a traditional owner, they just do it the smarter way and have less over head. Most of the overhead expenses are things they have to pay for each month anyway, like house payments, Internet and telephone services, electricity, car expenses etc etc. Only they were going to use these things regardless if they went into business or not. Also the fact that everything like that becomes a tax write off. With that, yes joining an affiliate program is not a bad idea, it can be an actually good idea.
I’m a mom and understand you needing to find a way to make money at home. A lot of people are going into business for themselves and running them out of their homes. The way the economy is giong, gas price inflation, it’s pretty much forcing people to have to find alternative ways to make their income. Home based businesses (affiliate programs) are an excellent way to do this. Like I said, you have the same income opportunity as a traditional business.
How long does it take to build an income with this line of work? That all depends on you. It’s your business, not a job you are not hired, so you have to build the business from the ground up. How long it takes you really depends on you and no one else.
Here’s an article I suggest you read on this topic. It will give you a lot of information on this as well as quite a few industries to look into if affiliate programs are the way you want to go.

Yes you can but if you are using Google’s PPC is it getting harder to direct link. Your cost per click may be to high to be profitable untill you use a landing page relevent to your ads.

creating a site just for affiliate advertising would not be too worthwhile, although there are plenty.

a site SHOULD have your passion invested in it. that is, it should be about something you are very interested in.

why? because google and the lesser search engines can detect your skill and enthusiasm in the way you write your pages.

the best affiliate program i have found so far is GOOGLE ADWORDS. you simply paste some code on your page, and they do the rest.

they have no criteria beyond that the site may not be pornographic, or promote illegal activity.

the only limit is that they will not pay you until you have $100 in accumulated revenue.

Your best bet is to ensure that you have a "tasteful" site, with no porn, no links to casinos or online gambling.

Various advertisers have different requirements, so you basically have to apply for each one. Some advertisers have a minimun traffic requirement, or perhaps they just don’t feel your site fits with their product line. The best way to find out is simply to apply to them.

There are some companies that work with advertisers to develope affiliate programs, and working with publishers (that would be you).

You can create a free blog or site, then show it to the affiliate programs that require you to have one. Blogger, Weebly, HubPages and Squidoo would be great.

Some affiliate marketers that don’t have sites just engage in a lot of article marketing or bum marketing.

Well, if you are trying to do something like this, use a large bulletin board. Ebay will charge you to post an item and if this is something you want to do for awhile, it may not be worth your while to repeatedly post it. Try making a great homepage with your affiliate program. Then use Google to promote it.

You shouldn’t be looking for the highest paying affiliate program. You should be searching for products that will help your customers and then check to see if they have affiliate products.

To tell you the truth. You’re not going to make any money online, if you sign up for an affiliate program that you have no passion for.

I recommend that first you find out what you can talk a lot about, find a targeted market for it, look for products that would help out that targeted market, then check if those products have affiliate programs (which they usually do), and then try to profit online.

If you don’t…you’re not going to make much from an affiliate program.

There are many affiliate programs with products that sell and pay good commissions but that’s only part of the story. You need customers to promote them to and that usually involves getting traffic to a website. If you rely on PPC advertising like Google AdWords, you can waste an awful lot of money before you start making any (if you do at all).

The most important question is not who is the top affiliate paying program. The question you should ask is how will I have the most success promoting a program. You can sign up with the top paying affiliate program and still not be successful.

The way I make money online is by making websites. You do not need to be a genius either.

These websites are targeted to niche markets and promote ebay items for related goods. I add in amazon ads and other big search engine ads that we had best not mention. Its a great income from many sources.

Forgive me if I don’t accurately answer your question, because I’m not sure what you want.

I assume you want a way to identify which of your affiliates sent a visitor to your website who bought what you are selling. If so, then you need software that records and logs all of your affiliates clicks and sales, so you will know which affiliate to reward. I do not think Pay Pal offers that software.

You can search for "affiliate tracking software" at Yahoo to find a provider. Most software ranges from free to several thousand dollars. Most of the free software though is riddled with adware, spyware, and is limited on what it can do. I found a website for you that offers free affiliate tracking software, you can check them out as well as search for others.

Wow, lots of people spamming your question with irrelevant links,,,sorry to see that.

Try to find various programs that reach a general audience or the topic of the content.

If you are trying to get people to come to visit your town, try a hotel or travel program, or offer luggage or maps, or children’s travel games programs. Something people may use in your home town or a general program with all of the above like Eastern Mountain Sports.

You may also want to think about trying to use a restaurant program if there are any restaurants in your hometown that may have a coupon or deal.

Try to find something relevant to what the purpose of the site is, or something related to the copy. If you have a local drugstore you want to write about, try using the hocks.com program which is a small online pharmacy (no I have no affiliation with them).

Basically, pick something relevant or something that will ad value to your end user.

You may also want to think about non-profit organization’s programs like AARP or something if you have a largely older population as well.

Hostgator.com has one that I belong to… They pay really well if you get any commissions, and the pay increases as the number of commissions increase within a month.

Have you tried any other affiliate programs? I belong to one that has tons of high converting offers which costs nothing to join. They only make money when you make money, and they send checks weekly!

Without knowing more info about your affiliate program or having a link to your website, it is more difficult to give you a more targeted answer. I would assume that your website came along with the program. Duplicated websites are very difficult to generate traffic. People do not arrive to them naturally. You may want to look into building your own independent website around your affiliate program. The web host that I use specializes in helping people in this area. there are companies who brings vendors under one bg affiliate program so that affiliates can easily sign up through them and sell the products. it is much harder for each affiliate to find, sign up, and sell for your affiliate program, but they would know the bigger umbrella companies. if you are really serious i would suggest going to Wealthy Affiliate, its a great place to learn from the best. they offer great support and guidance in all areas of internet marketing. they have great tutorials to learn from and tools you can you utilize to give you a slight edge against the competition. i dont know your financial situation, but there is a membership subscription fee. ill tell you this though if you are serious about taking your affiliate program to great levels i highly suggest you at least look into this.

Are you running a business running an affiliate program or someone working as an affiliate (or affiliate marketer)? Those are two very different things and take two different approaches.

If you are an affiliate, then go out and become active in social networks, forums and other blogs in your niche. Post and become active. Those are some of the best ways to drive traffic to your website. Also, if you’re running a blog style website, post like crazy — at least 5 times a week, and I’ve found that longer posts do a lot better in search engine results.

Affiliate programs are typically those programs that a publisher like you joins or signs up to earn money — and you earn money through commissions by selling the company’s products.

Take for example Amazon.com’s Associate program http://affiliate-program.amazo.....iates/join where you put a link on your website to Amazon.com’s products, and you earn money if a visitor to your website clicks on the link and purchases that item or other items from Amazon.com

So yes, YOU will be responsible for finding the customers and your earnings will depend on how many customers you give to the company. The more sales you do for them, the higher your earning. Companies afterall do affiliate programs so they can get help in selling their products — and that is your role.

Affiliates do not work like that…. You can subscribe to many affiliate programs. Some pay per per ad impression some per completed sale. But you will send your traffic to them and the transaction is completed on their servers. Just be careful not to make promo text from one affiliate send traffic to another…

I find that the best affiliate programs I have joined are those that offer recurring commissions, and lifetime cookies. That way you have more chance of getting commission when the sale is made than having the cookie expire and losing the commission because the sale was made too late.

I’m having great success with these programs, but don’t want to disclose how much I earn. It does vary from week to week, month to month.

There’s a loan program at http://www.affiliatecommission.net/other.htm where you make around $75 for each customer which is awesome.

One of my best performers has been Amazon.

They have a rich affiliate program and you can very specifically target the ads to your audience.

For example, lets say that your site deals with Classic Cars. You can then present Amazon ads that are relevant only to classic cars. And Amazon is not limited to books – they deal in a lot of hard products too.

Hi,

I have a lot of experience marketing small companies online (I have 3 companies). One of the best ways is to sign up at business directories and protals. These are basically listings of businesses (simliar to the phone book). The advantage is that these portals usually get a lot of traffic and they’re ranked high on Google because of all the quality links they contain.

My favorite portal is called Directory Exclusive. I signed up a few weeks ago because they’re giving a away a free business card holder when a person enter’s their company info. I received it in the mail 3 days ago =)

Paypal does not have an affiliate program software that allows you to track which of your selllers sold your book

Use Clickbank or 2checkout — they charge higher in terms of commissions but they have allow you to set up an affiliate program
